Herbal medicine has been around for millenia and used throughout the world. Many cultures rely on herbal medicine as their first line of defence. It is what our ancestors used and what we have lost touch with. I hope my website encourages you to connect with this traditional way of healing.
Herbal medicine uses roots, seeds, leaves, bark, flowers, it really depends on the plant, its constituents and what actions we are looking for. I try to forage and grow as many plants for my dispensary as possible but will buy in when required, always using reputable suppliers with sustainable sources and ideally organic wherever possible.
The plants can be dried for teas or macerated in oils to make into salves or creams. Often alcohol is used to extract plant constituents but it is perfectly possible to avoid alcohol altogether and have capsules, glycerites or herbal vinegars.
The possibilities are endless when approaching treatment and that is part of the joy of herbal medicine. Because we don’t treat the ‘disease’ we treat the person there is always something that we can do and always beneficial herbs to use.
Equally it is important to know our limitations and my extensive training means I know what is outside my remit and when to refer onto relevant experts.
